Project Birdie Bash:

📌 Sun Country Play Yellow Birdie Bash

The Sun Country Play Yellow Birdie Bash is an annual charity golf fundraiser organized by the Sun Country PGA Section, the regional PGA of America section representing New Mexico and part of West Texas. The event takes place at UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

🏌️‍♂️ Format & Purpose

  • The event typically features teams of two; one local PGA professional paired with an amateur golfer — competing in a scramble format.

  • Teams play an extended number of holes (e.g., 54 in recent years).

  • Fundraising is tied to performance: supporters pledge donations based on the number of birdies and eagles made by teams during play.

🎯 Mission & Beneficiaries

  • The goal each year is to raise significant charitable contributions (e.g., aiming for $50,000).

  • Funds are shared between the Sun Country Golf Foundation (which supports youth golf, military outreach, and inclusion initiatives) and local healthcare charities like UNM Children’s Hospital.

  • Donated funds support a range of needs, from therapeutic programs and veteran golf lessons to equipment, family support services, and patient care enhancements.

📈 History & Growth

  • The Bash began as an inaugural Birdie Bash in 2023 and has continued annually, growing participation and community support each year.

  • It’s designed to be not just a golf competition, but a community event with food, drinks, prizes, and local involvement.
